In late 2019, scientists began a study on health and longevity in dogs, aiming to enroll 10,000 Americans to track their pets’ lives. With the project now called the Dog Aging Project, around 47,000 dogs have joined so far. The researchers plan to gather detailed information about the dogs’ bodies, lifestyles, and home environments to identify factors that promote healthy aging. The project relies heavily on funding from a government institute, which will run out in June, and renewal seems uncertain. The scientists, however, remain committed to the project’s long-term goals.
